"Se Solen" - Øyvind Mathisen Trio (feat. Rob Waring)

“Se Solen” is the fourth album by Norwegian trumpeter Øyvind Mathisen, featuring eight tracks. It’s the first release from the Øyvind Mathisen Trio, and also highlights their close collaboration with vibraphonist Rob Waring. The album points toward a more personal direction for Mathisen, both as a composer and performer, with the trumpet more clearly in focus than before.

The trio format leaves plenty of space in the music, which brings out subtle details but also requires a strong sense of listening, interaction, and musical awareness. The sound is shaped by clear harmonic ideas, precise rhythms, and a responsive, well-balanced group dynamic. Rob Waring appears on half of the tracks, where his distinctive, airy vibraphone sound adds another layer to the music. He plays an important role in the overall feel of the album, both through his musicianship and his ability to push and support the interplay within the trio.
